Omai met Samuel Wallis in 1767 and Captain James Cook in 1769 in Tahiti.[1] In August 1773 he embarked from Huahine on the British ship HMS Adventure , commanded by Tobias Furneaux becoming the second Pacific Islander to visit Europe, after Ahu-toru who was brought to Paris by Bougainville in 1768. CONDITION Red bds (unworn) personal inscription from the Author to dedication page, xviii, 364pp, tipped-in colour plates, B/W plates, drawings, maps. DJ has mild fading to spine and faintest wear to spine ends and tips. Overweight. Signed by Author. First Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Near Fine. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
