Colombo 1943 Vg/Vg (front of dj undamaged and unmarked, large tear across back of dj but no loss, neat signature title page else contents very clean in very good condition, near fine) 16mo 57pp. Little booklet published in aid of War Funds. Second printing August 1943. Sold in aid of the War Purposes Fund. Red lettering stamped across front cover reads "A gift to the Forces from Ceylon Theatres Limited." Foreword by the Governor of Ceylon. Quote from G. Layton, Admiral, Commander-in-Chief, Ceylon on front dj flap and on back dj as follows: "our war effort now demands the production of every pound of rubber possible, and the more interest taken in this subject the better." Short passages include the history of the rubber industry in Ceylon, early attempts at manufacture, Charles Goodyear, vulcanization, Sir Henry Wickham, the birth of companies, Dunlop, comparison of share prices, the world's production and consumption of rubber, and more. Also chapter on the production of rubber and the treatment of the raw product on the plantation illustrated with b/w photographs. Very interesting and unusual little item.
