A Study For His Long Beach School Murals Under The Wpa. Napolitano Studied At Chouinard And Otis To 1925, Worked With Herman Sachs And Later On His Own Doing Architectural Murals (Los Angeles City Hall, The Miami Beach Biltmore, And Many Prominent Buildings And Estates). He Then Studied Ceramics In Ny And Mural Painting In Germany 1929-1931. After Returning To Los Angeles In 1933 Napolitano Began Working In All Media, Including Many Murals For The Wpa, Where He Met Armitage. Armitage Published A Book About Napolitano In 1935 And Used His Illustrations In Many Books 1934-1960.

Sachs Continued His Artistic Training In Europe, Spending The 1910-1920 Period In Germany, Where He Founded The Munich School Of Expressionists (Munich Expressionist Werkstätten). 1969. FINE. Original oil on board, 11 1/2 x 8 in. framed with linen mat. SIGNED and dated CAA lower right, framed dimensions 17 1/2 x 14 label on back "General Store Gallery / Austin, Texas" and sealed. Photos on request. James Boren was one of the deans of modern western painters in Texas. Born in Waxahachie, Boren was inducted into the Cowboy Artists of America and became one of its most celebrated and honored members. His preferred media was watercolor. Few oils have come to market. In the late 1960s he and fellow CAA member Melvin Warren, both established homes and studios in the small central Texas town of Clifton and helped turn that city into something of a western artist's colony. This small gem in oil is rare to see and not offered for sale previously, having been purchased by me from the original owner in San Antonio in the early 1980's. Only a few oils have turned up on the auction sights, most recent items are $3,000 - 8,000.00.
