About This Item

[Korea], circa February through June, [1953]., [1953].. Good. - An original 8 inch high by 10 inch wide black & white photograph of 3 American commanding officers in Korea during the waning months of the Korean War. Pictured are General Maxwell D. Taylor, Admiral Arthur W. Radford, and Major-General Philip De Witt Ginder with his elbow resting on the back of a Jeep. Two other Jeeps appear to be parked behind the officers. There is a thin sliver clipped from the top edge of the photograph with remnants of what was likely mounting tape along the top of the verso. The edges and corners are creased with some of the creases spreading into the image. Admiral Radford and General Taylor are identified in pencil on the verso. Good.

Provenance: From the estate of Major-General Ginder's wife, Jean Dalrymple.

General Maxwell D. Taylor (1901-1987). On February 11, 1953, General Taylor assumed command of the Eighth U.S. Army engaged in the Korean War's last round of fighting.

Admiral Arthur W. Radford (1896-1973). Admiral Radford was the commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet during the Korean War.

Brigadier General Philip De Witt Ginder (1905-1968) was the commander of the 45th Infantry Division in Korea in 1953. He was made a brigadier general (1 star) in July 1952 and advanced to the rank of major general (2 stars) in July 1953. He was the youngest American general to command a combat division in Korea.
