About This Item
London: Hodder and Stoughton, 1927. Cloth. Very Good/Good Only. 8" by 5.5". None. The first edition of this exciting mystery novel from Mason, with the very scarce original unclipped dust wrapper. First edition. Dated from the British Library and ink inscription to front endpaper. With the very scarce original unclipped dust wrapper. A mystery thriller novel set in Burma. While tiger hunting, Colonel John Strickland encounters no tigers, but does meet a strange man with news of the woman Strickland is in love with back in England. Written by Alfred Edward Woodley Mason, an English author and politician known as the creator of Inspector Hanaud, an early template for Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot. In the original blue cloth binding. Externally, smart with light shelf wear and minor bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine and the edges of the boards. Original unclipped dust wrapper is sound with light chipping to the extremities resulting in loss to the head and tail of the spine as well as the rear board. The odd small closed tear. Light discolouration and marks to the board. The wrapper has been clipped to the head and tail, resulting in the wrap being smaller than the book. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd spot. Light spotting to the first and last few pages. Contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper. Very Good
