Gilt borders on spine and on boards. All page edges red. Title printed within double rule. A leaf formerly attached to front fixed endpaper, possibly with birth and death information, now mostly removed. Former owner information on front free endpaper: Presented by Debarah Darby to Henry Hull 1811; Presented by Sarah C. Hull to Margaret Parker 5th mo 1845; Presented by Margaret Park to Samuel Allinson 1848; Presented to Saml. Bettle Jr. by Saml. Allinson Jr. 12mo 1855. In Good+ Condition: leather is rubbed; front joint starting to separate; tailband torn but present; most of gilt gone; most of back free endpaper lacking; foxing, heaviest on title page and first few leaves; otherwise pages are clean and tight.

New York: Henry S. Goodspeed & Co., 1873. with an Introduction by Dr. L.P. Brockett 8vo size decorative cloth; 1,158 pages. Every page has a beautifully decorated engraved border: angels, cherubim, seraphim at the top and an open bible centered among flourishes at the bottom. There are also several hundred full page black and white engraved illustrations. Dark brown endpapers. Covers are brown cloth with bevelled edges. They are decorated with gilt titles and illustrations and black decorations. Ingram Cobbin (1777 - 1851) was an English minister. When ill heath forced his retirement from the pulpit, he turned to writing hymns and biblical and scholastic works. Book is partly disbound with front cover detached bound to front endpaper and back cover partly detached. Worn corners and head and heel of spine and to detached areas. Nuremberg: Peter Conrad Monath, 1730. Octavo. 17, 1120, 320. Very rare. Only two recorded copies of the Morl edition (Erlangen, Nuremberg); none on OCLC. Second corrected edition. Introduction by Gustav Philipp Morl (1673-1750), Doring notes in The Learned Theologians of Germany in the 18th and 19th Centuries was important both for his studies in Descartes as well as Confessional Theology. In the four page introduction he notes that Nuremberg is fortunate in this time. There is a pastedown of showing Jesus examining the 10 Commandments (though the fifth apparently is missing from the tables) and below is a panorama of the city. The other endpaper has a full page of Professor Morl (the same as in the NYPL digital collection of famous personages). The following preliminaries list the entire Augsburg Confession (it was the 200 anniversary of its first appearance). BINDING: new Gothic hand-sewn oak binding by Arthur Green of Malvern; tawed quarter leather over quarter-sawn oak boards, quires hand-sewn on four double-cords creating four raised spine bands, board leather blind-tooled with period style rosettes and fleurs-de-lys within panel of diagonal blind triple fillets, hand-sewn Gothic double headbands of alternate hand-dyed indigo and undyed linen thread, hand-made brass hasps and clasps ornamented in period style; an exceptionally attractive recreation of a Gothic hand-sewn binding employing medieval techniques contemporaneous with the date the book was printed. Stuttgart: Maler Renz, 1850. Hardcover. Fair. [2] p., 40 leaves of hand-colored illustrations with captions from the New Testament; 22 cm. Publisher's dark brown cloth with gilt-stamped cover title and decoration. No date of publication. Little is known about the publisher Maler Renz, but it was active in the mid-19th century. This title is not in WorldCat. The title page verso contains a poem by German poet Albert Knapp (1798-1864). Very scarce. In Fair Condition: cover is rubbed and slightly soiled; lacking number 9 and 2/3 of number 10; numbers 30 and 32 are detached but present, with chipping along fore-edges; number 34 lacking lower corner, without loss of illustration or caption; numerous closed tears; finger soiling throughout.
