Small palm-sized books, 3" x 4", looks like pebbled green paper on spines with paper labels, marbled paper over boards. The paper is losing some of the marbling from rubbing against the other volumes. Volume VI has some chipping to spine. Very good condition given the age and nature of the books. Compiled originally by J.B. de Almeida Garrett, author of the preliminary sketch on the language and poetry, and revised by Jose da Fonseca. Cf. Silva's Dic. bibl. port./ Vol. 6 was first published 1834 under title, "Satyricos portuguezes", and included "Os burros; ou, O reinado da sandice". It was followed in the same year by a volume bearing the original title and containing the "Satyras" of N. Tolentino in place of "Os burros." cf. Silva.
