Sixteen octavo volumes (9 ? x 6 Ω inches; 236 x 166 mm). With 717 hand-colored engraved or lithographed plates. Numerous wood engravings in the text. Including the rarely present volume XVI. Half green morocco over green cloth boards. Gilt decoration and lettering on the spine. Spines lightly sunned and extremities slightly bumped. Overall a very good complete set. Joseph Paxton was the head gardener to the Duke of Devonshire for whom he cultivated and developed one of the most famous European gardens. Nissen 2351 HBS 64304. $20,000
