SIGNED by the Artist-Author with an Original Sketch on a front endpaper of Moses holding the Ten Commandments, "square" 4to (10 1/4" x 9 1/4"), black cloth with gold lettering and gold procession of people on front cover, pictorial dust jacket (unclipped) depicting two women balancing jars on their heads, profusely illustrated with impressionistic color and B&W fluid images by Josse Stern, protected by an archival clear plastic cover, pictorial endpapers, 126 pages + [127-128: pictures]. Yossi Stern (Israeli, 1923-1992) Yossi ("Josse)" Stern was a prominent Israeli artist based in Jerusalem who was widely exhibited and published several illustrated books. PEOPLE OF THE BOOK contains Stern's artistic impressions of the 'patriarchs and prophets' who filled the Tanakh/Old Testament as well as more delightfully colorful representations of scenes from the life of modern Israel. SUPERIOR CONDITION: tight, clean, bright copy with a unique illustration of Moses on a front endpaper. Slight rubbing to the bright dust jacket.
