About This Item

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1926. In this book the author attempts to give a picture of the Edinburgh of today with the chiaroscuro of its past. The romance of the ancient town did not vanish with its swords, nor even with the passong of the tall hat; glamour descends still upon its ridges every night. By good guidance the author's perambulations extended to the interiors of seventeenth and eighteenth century skyscrapers and mansions of the Old Town, once the homes of Edinburgh gentry and now tenanted by the very poor: and he was able to see what relics of elegance and harmony remain in them. Illustrated by 16 full- pageb/w illustrations by E.S. Lumsden, all in excellent condition. Name to ffep. Discoloration from dried flower laid in. An informative volume of work.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Fair.
