The SS West Lashaway, a freighter, was off the coast of South America in August 1942 when she was attacked and sunk by German U-Boat, U-66. In addition to cargo, there were missionaries and their children who were fleeing the German Army in Africa. Nineteen survivors crowded onto a cargo raft, which did have food and water, and for twenty days floated on the ocean before being rescued by the HMS Vimy, a British destroyer. The author, Robert Bell, was 11 years old at the time. A true story of adventure, courage, and human spirit. A clean very presentable copy.
