Covers worn particularly fore-edge of front cover, small chips at head and foot of spine. Faint damp stain affecting first 30 pages, some foxing to endpapers and prelims only. Taken from the last Edinburgh edition. Very scarce 19th century astronomy title dealing with the solar sysytem. Part I deals with the motions of the planetary orbs, while Part II deals with the physical composition of the solar system and of the bodies that compose it. There are notes at the end on Kepler's Third Law; Eclipses and Bode's Law of Distances.. First American Edition. Hard Cover. Good Plus. 8vo.

From the last Edinburgh edition, 165(1)pp., 18pp. publisher's ads, illustrated with 21 full page black and white illustrations, some folding. The author presents the motions of the planetary orbs; the early astronomy with a supplementary chapter on the characteristics of the motions of our system; the physical constitution of the solar system : with a supplementary chapter on comets, and of the bodies that composed it along with glimpses of the unity of things such as gravitation. He also lends notes on Kepler's third law, eclipses and Bode's law of the distances. A very good copy bound in publisher's dark brown embossed cloth rubbed, spine lettered and ruled in gilt, wear to head, occasional spots of foxing, some scattered especially title page, near contemporary owner's name.
