From the foreword: "This list of photographic negatives, portraying various phases of American life and history, and covering a broad range of pictorial material, is published for the convenience of those who may wish to obtain prints of the scenes, portraits, etc., described. All negatives listed are 8 x 10 except those whose number is followed by one asterisk, in which case the negative size is 5 x 7.".
