About This Item
Lwów: Nakł. Księg. B. Jabłońskiego i Syna, 1842 12mo (17 cm). VIII, 100 pp. Contemporary leather-backed boards, marbled paper, gilt-lettered spine (binding slightly rubbed, lacking the front endpaper, paper somewhat toned). From the library of H. Bednarski (bookplate). Tomasz Padura (1801-1871) was a Ukrainian-Polish poet, composer, and songwriter. He belonged to the Ukrainian school, a group of poets who produced a distinct style of Polish Romanticism by incorporating Ukrainian life, landscapes, history, and folklore into their works. Padura wrote in Ukrainian but in the Latin script. This book, "Tomasz Padura’s Songs," was the first printed book under the poet’s name, but it was published without the author’s permit and was a product of the enterprising publisher Kajetan Jabłoński. It includes a few poems not written by Padura. (Lewicki 254).
