About This Item

San Francisco, California: Pierre Bovis, 1971. Limited Numbered Edition . Hardcover. Fine/VG-/G+. Finerty, John. F.; Farr, Nonie. Recreates the circumstances leading up to the bloody massacre by the US Cavalry "blue-coats" of the local Lakota Indians at the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota on Dec. 29, 1890. You'll feel like you're back in history after reading the daily dispatches--presented in their entirety--sent by young reporter W. F. Kelley to the Nebraska State Journal, with historical perspective added by the editors. In 267 with Bibliography & fold-out map (23" x 30") in perfect condition attached to last page, pen-&-ink illustrations throughout by Miss Nonie Farr, along with an engraving by John F. Finerty & photos from the Smithsonian, Bureau of Ethnology, & National Archives. With light brown cloth-covered boards lettered in gilt to spine, this hardcover 8vo is in Fine condition: exceptionally clean & bright, binding strong & straight, hinges secure, pages bright white & unmarked save for former owner's name inside front cover in black marker. This is a Limited Edition of 2000 copies, preceding the first trade edition, from 1971. The unclipped DJ has provided good protection, but is itself in VG-/Good+ condition, with splitting along rear flap, light chipping to both top & bottom edges, light soil; nicely protected in new mylar cover free! Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same Day Shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific); later orders, Weekends & holidays ship very next business day.
