London: Hodder and Stoughton, 1969 First printing of the first British/hardcover edition, black boards with gilt-lettered spine, 187pp, the debut Max Curfew thriller. Brunner's copy with his personalized bookplate laid-in to front endpaper, and personal stamp to front-free endpage; additionally signed and inscribed by Brunner on the front-free endpage: "With lots of love / from John & Marjorie-- / 1969." Bottom corners bumped, small stain to upper fore-edge, tiny stain to top-edge, and front board slightly splayed, else book in fine condition; dust jacket with toning to spine, creasing to corners/spine ends, faint sticker ghost near price on front flap, and mild edge wear.
