Also from the title page " Suberbly Illustrated with Two Hundred and Twenty-Five Engravings from Original Designs by the Most Eminent Artists. Sold only by Subscription". Dark forest green full cloth bound, title and blocking blind stamped top board, Decorative title, publisher and design stamped in gilt on the spine. Binding remains firm, with a very slight twist, some minor wear and rubbing along edges, spine head and tail in good shape with a few very small closed tears; the text is complete and internally very clean, sharp, endpappers do have a few odd brown marks along edges, but no markings whatsoever in text. Edges of text-block are dust toned. Intriguing Victorian era frontispiece reminiscent of early Sherlock Holmes' illustrations. A nice and quite collectible Victorian home book for the family to enjoy and learn from together. Mr Gough was and early temperance advocate, speaker and a fore-runner of the AA organization..
