In a dust jacket which is heavily foxed, being more apparent on the thin strip of white at the fold-in of the upper panel and on the white lower panel, shows light edgewear, and has a closed tear at the lower fold-in. Lowell's second book, containing "The Quaker Garveyard in Nantucket," it was greeted with critical acclaimn.

Internally clean and fine; however, the dust jacket is sunned at perimeters and on the lower panel, with some light edgewear. Engraved additional pictorial title in each volume, 48 engraved portraits, contemporary tree calf gilt, roll-tool borders to sides, flat spines in six compartments, marbled endpapers, and green and red morocco lettering and number labels. Interior pages are clean with very little foxing. Volumes are in Fine condition with little wear with one exception. The original volume 95 is missing and has been replaced by volume 95 from the 1807 reprint edition published by Cadell, Davies and Samuel Bagster. The front board of this replacement volume is detached. Edinburgh, at the Apollo Press, [for John Bell], [1778-1784]. From the estate of my great-great grandfather.Includes many unique poems and recitations such as "To a skull", "Uncle Daniel's Introduction to a Mississippi Steamer", "The Leak in the Dyke", etc. More well-known poetry includes "Song of Birds", "Old Ironsides", and "Bannock Burn" by Robbie Burns. Light rubbing and bumps to outside spine edges. Back cover and interior cloth covered board has a stain at top. Original owner's name and address from 1908, but no other writing or marks. First 2 pages have a stain at top, but text of 192 pages of poetry and recitations is totally clean with light tanning of pages.
