British statesman Sir Robert Peel (1788 - 1850) twice served as Home Secretary, and then, twice as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (1834 to1835, and again 1841 to 1846). Often regarded as the father of the modern British police, he was a founding member of the modern Conservative Party. Volume examines political milestones during Peel's prime-ministership which was marked by the first Reform Act of 1832. 496 pgs. 15 chapters in 3 parts: I, The Representative System; II, The Working of the System; and III, Direction from Above, followed by 10 appendices.
