Basel: Michael Isingrin, 1543. Second Edition. Hardcover Hardcover. Good Condition. 30cm x 20cm. [20], 230, [2] pages, 2 double page maps, 18 maps in the text. Full vellum, manuscript lettering, housed in a custom quarter leather clamshell. Text is in Latin. The Second Isingrin Edition with commentary and woodcut maps by Sebastian Munster. A significant work of geography containing "the earliest representation of the north-west coast of America on a printed map" (Burden), as well as one of the earliest printed works to with a map showing Asia as a whole. Some splitting to the upper joint though still firm. A small rub to the lower board. Early owner's marks to the title page and with minor occasional marginalia. Leaf O2 and O4 with a small repair to the tail margin. A light waterstain to the top edge from about half way through to the end. Leaf Dd4 and the final few leaves including the final device leaf more significantly stained though still light. Shipped Weight: 1.34 kilos.
