Hartford: Case, Lockwood and Company, 1864. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good -. 8vo. Illustrated. FIRST EDITION, 1864. Hardcover. Lieutenant Pratt and his brother, John, were original founders of Hartford, Connecticut. Bound in textured navy blue publisher's cloth. Covers are plain with blind stamped lettering and lining on the spine. Endpapers are a mint green. Illustrated throughout with portrait plate engravings in black and white, protected by a tissue leaf. Frontispiece is the "Arms of Pratt", also with a tissue leaf. Includes an additions an corrections page. Indexed. 420 pp. Additional Pratt information is added in handwritten, dipped ink from the period at the back. Two xerox copies of the preface are present and laid in. <br><br>CONDITION: Overall VG-. External cover shows modest shelf wear. Front inner hinge has cracked, and several introductory pages have detached, yet are present and laid in. Some marginalia in pencil occasionally throughout. Gutter is cracked at pages 194 and 195 and pages are detaching, yet pagination is complete. Continuous dampstain runs at all corners throughout, yet text has not been compromised. Engravings are dark and bold. Signature of Levorllyn Pratt (sp?) present on the title page. Leaves have toned, but very little foxing is present. A nice, readable copy. Full refund if not satisfied.
