A good copy in the original gilt-stamped black cloth, color pictorial label on upper cover (some spotting and wear to cloth, some surface wear to label; text has some foxing; paperclip flaw to front endpaper and following leaf. [18], 284, [1] pages + plates. Later issue of the illustrated edition; copyright dates of 1881, 1899 and 1909 plus Harper code 'D-F' (i.e. April, 1931) on title page verso. Hatherell, W. (illustrator); 8 Color Illustrations / Plates; 1 b/w Facsimile. PROVENANCE: With the ink stamps of Hollywood motion picture company Pioneer Pictures, Inc., and the signature of noted horror director Val Lewton's wife Ruth. Lewton was head of RKO's horror unit when Pioneer left RKO for Sleznick, presumably leaving this book behind.
