Cambridge, Massachusetts: Harvard University Press, 1951. Very Good condition in Very Good in mylar dust jackets. NO chips NO tears. 2 volumes, complete. 332pp/345pp. NO owner's name or bookplate. Clean and unmarked. Sharp corners. 1951. Second printing of the SECOND REVISED EDITION. 367 illustrations, some folding. The preface calls some changes in this edition "of major importance." According to Webber (p.126), this work by the head of the Merrymount Press "is not likely to be superseded as a standard authority on typography." Hart 25 says: "These volumes are without doubt the result of the most scholarly research that has been done in the history of the development of printing and the numerous illustrations have been carefully selected." In his article in THE PRIVATE LIBRARY (Summer 1989), Robert Jones of the Glad Hand Press wrote, "If I were King, I would decree, that no personal printing would be permitted until an applicant had studied the following volumes." He then lists this as one of five books that are "all the guidelines one will ever need." Uniformly bound in the original maroon cloth, stamped in gold on the spine. Oversize Hardcover (heavy).
