About This Item

Hartford, Connecticut: A. Work, 1851. Reprint. Cloth . Poor/No Jacket As Issued. [4 & 1/2' x 7 & 3/4'] Umber brown cloth covered boards. Front panel is completely split at hinge. Gold lettering on spine. One inch down a segment top of spine entire cloth cover has broken loose exposing threads and cardstock below. There are several other smaller spots where cloth has flaked away: one quarter inch band at base of spine, & small, narrow bit at edge of spine about one-half inch. Likewise two small places at fore-edge of boards front & back, and all four fore-edge side corners have cloth flaked away from bumps. Frontispiece is a drawing of five men in prison. I think this might be a very early reprint of the 1st edition because the cover normally black. But this might be a variation. Other than the color everything else is the same: same lettering on spine, the same raised fleur de lys decoration front and back front boards. 'Jamaica Circulation Library' stamp on 2nd inside page. Frontispiece illustration of men in prison. Textblock edges deeply darkened. Foxing scattered about throughout. [377 pages]
