London: Longmans, Green, and Co, 1898. Hardcover. Very Good. viii, 286, [2] p.: tables; 23 cm. Dark blue cloth with gilt-stamped spine title; blind-ruled borders on both boards. Ex-library: white call number at tail of spine; oval Dickinson College Library stamp on front fixed endpaper, title page, and first page of text; call number in pencil on title page verso; accession number stamped at lower edge of p. [v] (Preface); circulation pocket and card on back fixed endpaper. Accession information written in gutter on p. [v]--"Passfield, S.J. Webb, baron"--indicates that Dickinson College acquired the book from one of the authors, Sidney James Webb, 1st Baron Passfield. Sidney Webb (1859-1947) and his wife, Beatrice Potter Webb (1858-1943), were British socialists, early members of the Fabian Society, and co-founders of the London School of Economics. In Very Good Condition: ex-library, as described; spine ends fraying; corners lightly rubbed; cover very lightly soiled; closed tear from lower edge of pp. 191-2, not touching text; pages are clean and tight.
