EXTREMELY RARE SIX-PENNY NOVEL BY AUSTRALIAN AUTHOR EFFIE ADELAIDE ROWLANDS AKA MADAME E. MARIA ALBANESI (1859-1936). Published by Holding and Hardingham, London, 1919. 5 1/2 X 8 1/2. Romance. Previously published in 1919 by this same firm under the title "Tony's Wife". Date published and publisher unstated. Ms. Rowlands was a very prolific, popular author during the last half of the 19th Century, penning over 260 titles. This is a rare one and took me an hour to research. Quite the find. Used. Good Condition.

This beautifully preserved book is in Near Fine condition. Boards, titles and decorative design are all bright and clear with no fading or chipping. Pages are clean and hinge is tight. Minor bumps to head and foot of spine. End papers are slightly soiled and original owner's name is in pencil on FFEP. There are very minor scuffs to the front cover pictorial pastedown.The author was a noted stage and screen actress of her day as well as an author and a Harper's correspondent in World War I. She was married to Walter Hale, an artist, illustrator and actor who could have been the illustrator of this book as he illustrated many other books for Louise. Priced to sell! There is only one other 1st Edition of this title for sale on the web at a much higher price.
