When a garden club speaker canceled with only a few days notice, Alice Van Trease called everyone she could think of as a replacement speaker. Because she was too embarrassed to have no program at all for the meeting, she decided to give the program herself. Resorting to memory and imagination, she tried to pinpoint the exact time in her life that she fell in love with gardening. She thought about the gardens in which she played as a child. she recalled the sights, sounds and scents of the garden at night and the magic of childhood garden games. "The Rabbit in the Moon" is the result of her efforts. Book Condition is Very Good+; small oblong paperback with a drawing of the moon rabbit on the front with the title in blue letters. Fifty seven pages are dedicated to the story and the charming pencil illustrations, and twenty three pages with suggestions and hints for involving children with gardening. My favorite suggestions are the one's for the Night Garden. Clean and solid, with no marking or soiling, this adorable book is just the thing for a spring visit with the grandchildren.
