About This Item

New York, New York, U.S.A.: Grosset & Dunlap, 1912. Reprint . Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good+. Wyeth, N. C.. Highly collectible edition because the DJ cover was done by N.C.Wyeth (unattributed). In 424 pages with pen-and-ink illustrations throughout, this is the full text of Helen Hunt Jackson's 19th-century work, "Ramona,'' widely acknowledged as one of the greatest stories ever written about old California. The Native-American romance was made into a stage play & motion picture, continuing to enthrall subsequent generations, & the legend of Ramona lives on today in the San Diego County town that bears its name (note: a 18-year-old Raquel Welch played the leading role in the town's production of the Ramona Outdoor Play). This the Grosset & Dunlap reprint of the 1912 edition (originally published in 1884); no statement of publication, but research places it c. 1940s. Hardcover12mo has brown & beige tweed cloth-covered boards with darker brown lettering & decorative lines to front & spine. Condition is Near Fine: exceptionally clean & bright, with some darkening to external page edges. Three pages have slightly dogeared upper-outer corners, unfolded. All pages unmarked except for an ugly old thrift store price in red to ffep. Binding strong & straight, hinges secure. The unclipped DJ is a beauty: colorful & bright, but downgraded to VG+ due to slight chipping to head of spine & corners; nicely protected in new mylar cover free! Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive from us, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! All orders processed before 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific time) ship that same day; later orders, weekends & holidays, very next business day.
