LTD.,WATFORD,HERTS and bound by them.] VG+/VG.Neat,handwritten,blue ink owner name+ address to title page and price-clip to dw/dj.Colour pictorial cityscape (18thC Venice waterfront) artwork by SAX,illustrated front panel and colour illustrated spine/backstrip with red+black lettering to front,pale lilac lettering to spine/backstrip,and the rear panel with continuation of front panel colour illustration - view broken by spine/backstrip.Dw/dj with negligible shelf-wear,bumping,creasing to edges and corners - all corner tips minisculely rubbed with reciprocal loss and similar chipping/ rubbing to both head+foot of spine.Aged sellotape repair/strenthening internally,across head+foot of spine/backstrip and an approx.2.5" length down front gutter's fold/crease and similarly,partially along rear lower edge and minor loss on lower edge at rear corner's tip.Top edges lightly dust-soiled with minimal,sporadic foxing/ spotting,fore- edges brighter and cleaner and less foxing/spotting; contents bright, tight and clean - some smudges to page edges pp13-20.From the front free endpaper and the following pages upto pp29 the fore-edges have a uniform and diminishing ruching crease and also a faint,approx 2" diagonal crease from lower edges that also diminishingly continues to about pp200 - possible production/binding fault - due to its extent and duration? - text body virtually foxing-free - no intentional dog-ear reading creases to any pages corners - else would appear unread, apart from my own collation.Bright,crisp,clean,sharp-cornered, publisher's original dark blue cloth boards/covers with bright,crisp, blocked gilt outline of a gondola's prow decoration to lower edge of front board/cover and bright,crisp,blocked gilt author's name and publisher's 'bull' colophon and green ink title to spine/backstrip; with negligible shelf-wear,bumping, creasing - no nicks,tears splits or fraying present.Bright,clean,double-paged b/w illustrated map+number key of 18thC Venice illustrated front+rear eps,with both hinges solid and sound without any tears,splits or cracking.UK,8vo HB+dw/dj,1st edn,9-446pp [paginated] includes contents list/table,28 chapters and Epilogue,plus [unpaginated] publisher's blurb/story precis to half-title, double-page title,and a dedication page. The 6th of 12 Roger Brook novels. Set covering the period of June,1796 - December,1797 in the continuation of Roger Brook's adventures.
