Williams, Esq. Feb 1842" ; Interesting record of some of the tensions between Rev. John Pierpont and the Unitarian congregation served. Pierpont is better known as a poet and the grandfather of J. P. Morgan. .

Thomas and Ezra Stiles Ely from 1833-1835 debating the doctrine of eternal punishment, which incited widespread controversy at the time. The letters of Doctor Ely originally appeared in The Philadelphian, those of Thomas in The Messenger and Universalist, except the concluding seven epistles, which were published here for the first time.
