About This Item

University Press of America, Lanham, first edition, 1997. Rexine, 8vo, 23 cm,. xix, 201 pp. From the introduction "The purpose and justification of this bibliography is to provide annotations which illustrate, exemplify, and sometimes quote from the contents of the pamphlets. At times the remarks on individual pamphlets take on the nature of a summary. A translation of every title is provided, enabling those minimally familiar with the vagaries and orthographic pecularities of early modern German (or humanist Latin) to ascertain at a glance the sense of the original. The presence of woodcuts is not only noticed, but the individual subjects of illustration are normally noted. In addition, bibliographical information is given in as complete a form as conceivable, short of nearly reproducing the whole. It is hoped that this type of work not only supplements the meager gleanings from some of the older god venerable bibliographies of the pamphlets, but also provides an enticing invitation to scholars everywhere into this fascinating world of multi-faceted and interdisciplinary research. Very Good.
