About This Item

London: Chapman & Hall, Limited, 1911. Book. Very good+ condition. Hardcover. First thus edition. Octavo (8vo). 231 pages of text. Bound in the original hardcover grey paper covered boards, with a printed paper spine label, and gilt decoration on the front cover. The rear hinge is cracked, and the thick, stiff paper used in this publication, though fine and beautiful, lends toward the cracking of the spine within the text. Still, an attractive, mostly intact and functional original binding. Previous owner's bookplate on front pastedown (William Ronghead), and notation neatly on first free endpaper. Illustrated with a frontisportrait of Browne. Contains the essays "Hydriotaphia: Urn Burial"; "A Letter To A Friend"; and "On Dreams." One of the series "The Books of the Verulam Club." Beautiful paper and typography. There is no date of publication listed in the book, but it was published in 1911..
