About This Item
Washington: Robert Armstrong, 1872. This is a scarce first edition of the first, and still the best, source for the history of American fisheries. Prepared for the Treasury Department, Sabine's work presents detailed histories of the various fisheries along with a great deal of statistical information. Canadian fisheries are included, as are the whale fisheries, with text of Jeffersons 1791 message on the cod and whale fisheries reprinted. A classic text, hard to find in its original configuration, as this one is. Bound in original blind-stamped government cloth. Some wear to corners and front joint. Spine ends tidily chipped away.. 22.5 cm. 272 pp.
