Original attractive buckram red binding with gilt titles enclosed within black embossed dec. borders. Matching spine. Head of the spine a trifle rubbed otherwise a nice copy of a scarce book. A nice letter from T.H. Huxley stating his time would be better served, as a man of science, in other directions. [ dated Jan 2nd 1870]. NB 'Pages from 51 to 107 contain personal opinions of individual members of the committee'', and ''p. 284 to 325, containing the first portion of Miss Blackwell's paper, omitted in this edition. Nice inscriptions to the end-paper dated 1874 with a small original photo pasted to the page 2cms oval portrait of the giver.. 4th Thousand. Hardback. V.g.. 8vo.
