About This Item

London: Chapman and Hall, 1850. The works of Irish author Charles Lever (1806-1872) rivaled Dickens and Thackeray for popularity in the 19th Century. Dublin-born, and educated in medicine, he wrote many light-hearted, rather picaresque novels. "Roand Cashel" is partially based upon his experience as a surgeon on an immigrant ship to Canada. This is a Near Fine copy of the First Edition, presented in a fine binding. Green leather boards with black tips and spine. Ruled, and with five raised bands; the spine label is red with gilt lettering. The iIllustrations are by the celebrated "Phiz" (Hablot Knight Brown), who also drew for Dickens. Clean text; 625 pages. Several of the illustration pages have flood marking, but this is not evident elsewhere. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Edition.. Full-Leather. Near Fine/No Jacket. Illus. by "Phiz" (Hablot Knight Brown).
