About This Item
John Lane, The Bodley Head, Lond, 1898-01-01. Hardcover. Good. . FIRST edition. Inscribed and SIGNED by the author. This copy was a gift from the author to Canadian poet Bliss Carman. They met during a transatlantic crossing in January, 1898. ""to King Carman / from Prince Le Gallienne / with love. / New York, March, '98."" It is likely that in addressing him as ""King Carman"" and using he word ""love"" that Le Gallienne was playing around with Carman's relationship with Mary Perry King and Dr. Moses King -- the three being a likely menage-a-trois. Black cloth with gilt decoration minor rubbing, bumped corners. Pages with light tanning and minor tidemarks.
