About This Item
Roquefort, France: Société Anonyme des Caves et des Producteurs Réunis de Roquefort, 1956. Paperback. Translation by Mary Mian. Illustrations by Yves Brayer. Engravings by Gerard Angiolini. Small 4to. Stiff buff wrappers with flaps, original glassine. Color frontispiece, full-page and smaller color plates. Near fine/very good. Faint glassine wear. Superb, tight copy of this cheese-based tale by the prolific French writer/anthropologist who specialized in oral literature (1887-1959). Colophon notes 5000 numbered copies, and while these are relatively common it also notes "A few proofs marked 'Artist's Proof' have also been printed and are reserved for the collaborators in this present edition." This is one of those few and is so marked on the colophon leaf. Publisher's "With Our Best Regards" card laid in.
