There are a series of small holes where clasps were attached. xxx, [ii], 598p. Printed in red and black and illustrated with 14 full-page engravings, head- and tail-pieces, and historiated initials. Bound in full contemporary calf with marbled paste-downs and ornate gauffering, a.e.g., the spine and covers with extensive gilt decoration including a tool of a bird with an olive branch and urns with flowers. Housed in full leather pull-off box lined with pattern paper and decorated with panel designs. Holy Week Offices.

A superb copy , 238pp. bound in full, rich red morocco with morocco doublures and silk in an edition of 12 specially bound by the Knickerbocker Press for the father of the author. Two letters laid in from Francis H. Saltus (author's father) to Edna M. Green. Francis Saltus Saltus (as he was known) led a gang of bohemians including his brother James and a Young James Huneker whose desire for absinthe was mixed with a devotion to the erotic and sensuous. (See Yungfrau, p. 19, Ophelia, p.31, and the Awakening, P. 230.) Laid in: From Francis H. Saltus (writing at the age 103) to Miss Greene who knew his sone though she was a member of the DAR. Back cover has the same recessed panel without the inset. Gilt turn-ins. All edges gilt. . Octavo. Binding extremities lightly rubbed. Intermittent light foxing and minor marginal tear on p. 96. First few gatherings have been re-inserted. Contemporary ink inscription on front flyleaf. A very good copy and an example of a vulnerable deluxe trade binding that has remarkably survived.

Complete with all 27 illustrations: Six full-page colored plates, Eleven full-page B&W woodblock plates, and Ten B&W woodblock prints within the text. The text is flawless, no inscriptions, spotting, or tears, and is clean, bright and tight. The bindings have no wear or damage and all of the edges are in bright gilt. This is a pristine copy in a very attractive Fine binding by Bayntun of Bath.

Color-illustrated on almost every page using a combination of linoleum block printing, ink, pochoir, and colored pencil, along with mounted fabric. Printed on Zerkall Book Laid paper in six different type faces. A fine copy.

Spine with gilt ruled lines, floral design and lettering. Front board with ruled panels and floral designs, all in gilt Single gilt ruled border to the rear board and board edges. Gilt inner dentelles. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Armorial bookplate of noted author of books on folklore and topography, Sir George Laurence Gomme (1853 - 1916) on the front pastedown. Some offsetting to the endpapers from the leather turn-ins. A little rubbing to the extremities and the spine faded to an attractive brown but overall still a lovely copy of this scarce work in a fine quality binding. The binding is unsigned but is certainly the work of a master bookbinder.

Spine with five raised bands, each with three gilt dots. The compartments ruled, lettered and fully decorated with small flower emblems, all in gilt. Both boards with four ruled lines and flower and leaf designs in the middle panel, all in gilt. Board edges double ruled in gilt Turn-ins with double ruled lines and flower and leaf designs, all in gilt. plain white endpapers. All edges gilt. Blue silk bookmarker sewn in. This is a very representative copy of the 'Centenary Edition' of the poetry of Robert Burns. Bound by the famous Bayntun (Riviére) bindery in Bath in decorative half leather and cloth covered boards. The spines have five raised bands, gilt lettering on morocco labels and gilt tooling to compartments. Top edges gilt. Bindings remain generally clean, some ligth surface streaks to leather on some boards. Joints rubbed,some cracking mainly to upper joints resulting in a little movement to boards, others remain firm.
