About This Item
London and Glasgow: Collins' Clear-Type Press, [1929] Presumed second edition. Soft cover chapbook, (3 x 6 inches), 36 unnumbered pages, in second variant cover of Japanese vellum wraps with yapp edges over card, contents printed on art paper, with the Glasgow-born Scottish Graphic Artist Jessie M. King's (1875-1949) line-drawn cover illustration in gold, blue, orange and black, with the artist's signature vertically down the design's lower right corner. Also has King's artwork upon the double endpapers, printed in three colors, of a girl dancing on a hillside, also with similar signature to wraps. This is a RARE mis-binding of the contents, given the text is for a completely different booklet, selected verses from the love poetry of The Rubyaiat of Omar Khayyam. Also has black and white halftone illustrations by the Artist Charles Robinson. Condition: Fine. Wraps Fine. King bibliographer Colin White presumed the mis-binding was due to an inattentive apprentice at the printer's plant. (A Guide to the Printed Works of Jessie M. King, Oak Knoll, British Library, 2007) p. 81. Colin White B187.. [Presumed Second Edition]. Soft Cover. Fine/Fine. Illus. by Jessie M. King; Charles Robinson, et al..

About Dark and Stormy Night Books
Now entering our eighteenth year, Dark and Stormy Night Books is an online bookstore carrying Rare, Antiquarian and other interesting finds. Alasdair and Alexandra Johnson, Proprietors. Alasdair, from Edinburgh, Scotland has a colorful heritage including the salvage of shipwrecks off the English coast, and transportation of an eighteenth-century revolutionary relative to Australia. When not swashbuckling through the world of electronics and other gizmos as a lad, he scared himself silly with science-fiction, ghost stories and gothic novels. His partner, Alexandra, is a third-generation book dealer, whose family had the smallest of small-press workshops in the family barn. She is a graduate in history and art history from Bowdoin College, with a particular interest in the Far East and the China trade, the Pre-Raphaelite brotherhood, and the British Arts & Crafts Movement. She also spent some years working for a nationally known early-American antiques dealer. They make their home in historic Newburyport, on the Massachusetts coast.
