New York: Dodd, Mead and Company. 1940. First American edition of this Hercule Poirot novel. First American edition of this Hercule Poirot novel. Publisher's original light blue cloth with dark blue titles to the upper board and spine, in dustwrapper. A very good or better copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth a little toned to the edges with a small hole to the upper hinge and minor fraying at the spine tips. The contents are clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with a spectacular fine example of the first state dustwrapper that has a faint vertical crease to the spine and is otherwise as bright, crisp and fresh as the day it was published. Not price-clipped ($2.00 to the upper front flap). First published in the UK by Collins in The Crime Club in March 1940, the American edition followed shortly after (in the same year). Synopsis
Sad Cypress is a work of detective fiction by Agatha Christie and first published in the UK by the Collins Crime Club in March 1940 and in the US by Dodd, Mead and Company later in the same year. The UK edition retailed at eight shillings and threepence (8/3) – the first price rise for a UK Christie edition since her 1921 debut - and the US edition retailed at $2.00. The novel is notable for being the first courtroom drama in the Poirot series.
