About This Item

Philadelphia: Macrae Smith Company, 1935. First Edition. Octavo. 21cm. Publisher's heavy grain sand coloured cloth titled and decorated in black and orange to spine and front board. 312pp. Lacking dustjacket. Light sunning to spine, a little bumping and scuffing to extremities, a very good, strong copy. Internally clean, scribbled out ownership to front flyleaf. Edges untrimmed, top edge stained orange, illustrated throughout with full page photographic plates. The astonishing, vivid and occasionally slightly distasteful memoir of an early 20th century adventurer, by turns an IRA gunrunner, treasure hunter, explorer, soldier of fortune and a man who never seems to have taken a job or a journey unless there was a distincy possibility it would end in danger.
