About This Item
This is one of a mint-condition set of three matching books by the American author William Faulkner (1897-1962). They are first reissues, by his publisher (Random House) of Sanctuary, Light in August and The Sound and the Fury. They are simple red matte boards with gold lettering on the cover and spine. Lovely paper.
They do not appear to have been read. If you want more than one, let me know. They're listed here under American Fiction.
This is a Sanctuary, the famous novel by the American author William Faulkner (1897-1962). It is about the abduction and rape of a well-bred Mississippi college girl, Temple Drake, during the Prohibition era. First published in 1931, it is considered one of his more controversial works, but it was his commercial and critical breakthrough, establishing his literary reputation. When it was made into a movie in 1933, it was the reason for the Motion Picture Production Code crackdown on risque subject matter.
This copy: 250 pages, dated 1958.
There's a tiny bit of shelfwear to the top and bottom of the spine.
Other than that, it's pristine.
