This was a rare instance when a Rockwell cover corresponded with an article in the magazine. Features: Desert Battalion - An Army oasis of USO glamour girls invades Palm Springs, with great color photos; The Incredible Earl of Suffolk aka Charles Henry George ("Wild Jack") Howard, twentieth Earl of Suffolk - He lived and died for England (first of two articles); Memphis Yankee - Cotton pickery president Bill Robinson of McCallum and Robinson, Inc. in Tennessee; What's Wrong with our Patent System? - Jerome Frank proposes a plan - patent applied for; I Cheer the Referee - a football referee's wife boos the 60,000 who boo him; Woes of an Army Cook - but Army chow is better these days; Home Front gets Action - Cape Cod's civilian defense faces a real war test - with many color photos. Stories: Courage; Home is a Place; I Should Listen to Mabel!; Second Fiddle; Happy Land; Siren in the Night (part 2 of 6).
