Brooklyn: Wm. W. Swayne. Fair with no dust jacket. [c.1870]. Hardcover. A collection of Scottish songs and poems in the period following the life and output of Robert Burns. The table of contents lists several dozen authors, prominent among them being Carolina Baroness Nairne, with her tissue-guarded frontis portrait. An uncredited preface mentions 1870, no other date is obvious. Each author is profiled before the songs. Songs presented in two framed columns per page. Back matter includes index of authors, first lines and with an extensive glossary. --- In bevel-edge violet cloth with gilt decoration to cover; fillets in black to front panel, in blind to back panel. All edges gilt, with dark brown endpapers. Spine titling originally in gilt. --- A quite brittle copy with tanned leaves (especially at page edges), at least one leaf with good-sized tear. Spine is heavily faded and with spots of missing cloth, titling can be read.; Tall Octavo - 9 to 10 in. tall; xx, 507, 24 (ads) pages .
