About This Item
London: Not Given, 1717. Book. Good. Full Leather. First Edition. 12mo (10 x 16cm). First Collected edition. pp. [6], 363, [4], woodcut, head and tail-pieces throughout, historiated inititials. Contemporary full polished calf binding, panelled boards, raised bands to spine, front board held by cords.. No lettering piece - though no evidence of one ever having been present, binding good with general wear and rubbing. Contents clean and tight, generous margins. A good tight copy. This work was originally issued as a weekly periodical in 43 numbers, February 4 to November 25, 1717, and then as this collected edition in 1717. It was so scandalous that Lewis had to go into hiding: he signs himself unoquivocally "I am yours, &c. The Fanatick-hater.".
