About This Item

Oxford, England: Basil Blackwell, 1929. vi, 37 pages. First half of the book includes lyrics to popular ballads by the English composer Maurice Besly. The remainder of the book includes humorous epigrams about famous musicians and writers. Some of the epigrams are accompanied by the superb caricatures of the Swedish artist Einar Nerman. Very SCARCE: OCLC locates only 7 copies in libraries worldwide. SIGNED by Besly on the title page, with an inscription on the front endpaper from the author to "Baroness de Bush" (Pauline Joran, the noted opera singer who married William Ernest Bush, the first and last Baron de Bush). The book is in very good condition: tight, with some soiling to cover, moderate wear to corners, and minor foxing in margins of title page and a few other pages. Much nicer than it sounds--certainly a more than acceptable copy for the serious collector.. SIGNED. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Illus. by Einar Nerman. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Book.
