Journal of his overland trek to California, including his voyage to America, 1848, and letters from the Mother Lode. Edited and introduced by Shirley Sargent. Yosemite pioneer and innkeeper, early California journalist, publisher and chronicler of the mines and mountains, Hutchings looms large in California history. He was the author of "The Miner's Ten Commandments" (1853), "Scenes of Wonder and Curiosity" (1860), "In the Heart of the Sierras" (1886) and editor-publisher of Hutchings’ California Magazine. This special edition was arranged by the original publisher from the original printed sheets.
