About This Item

[San Francisco]: Nata Piaskowski, 1950. Photograph. Seven b&w photographs, 5x4 inches, three mounted on boards, very good condition with "photograph by Nata Piaskowski" stamped on the reverse of all photos. One photograph is inscribed and signed by King "Mle. Piaskowski, Bien cher amie, Je suis tres enchanté de faire tu connaisance. Bon chance et bon vivant, Votre ami toujours, Hayward, July 1950." King was a student at the California School of Fine Arts when these portraits were taken. He went on to become a painter, collage artist, co-founder of Six Gallery in San Francisco (famously the site of the first public reading of Allen Ginsburg's "Howl"), and director of the RIchmond Art Gallery. Nata Piaskowski was a Polish-born, San Francisco-based photographer who studied at the California School of Fine Arts under Minor White.
