About This Item

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1967. First American edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. 8vo. [9], x-xii, [3], 4-364, [2] pp. Orange cloth with gold lettering on the spine; blue topstain. Price of $5.95 on the front flap of the dust jacket. Translated from the Portuguese by Harriet de Onis. Jorge Amado is recognized as one of the most significant Latin American writers from the twentieth century. Amado's writings reflect the political and economic divisions that plagued Brazil during the 1960s, as he himself was a frequent exile due to his own political leanings. A lovely copy of a later novel from Amado. A Near Fine book with mild fading to the topstain in a Near Fine dust jacket with a few hints of edge wear.
