String-bound booklet; interior pages clean; author inscription and signature to title page; bookplate to inside of front wrapper; fore-edge of wrappers lightly worn, bottom edge moderately worn. Good condition.
Scarce copy of this account of the first congress of the Club Alpin Francais (CAF), or French Alpine Club. The club was created in 1874 to promote mountain sports, and has since grown into a federation of clubs with 241 associated organizations comprising tens of thousands of people. The club, known today as Fédération Française des clubs alpins et de montagne (FFCAM), offers courses and training programs in mountaineering and other alpine sports, and manages more than 140 mountain huts, mostly in the Alps and Pyrenees mountain ranges. This booklet details the goings-on of the 1876 CAF congress in the French alpine town of Annecy. It was authored by Henri Ferrand (1863-1926), a French member of the CAF and an accomplished lawyer, historian, and writer of many mountain books and guides.
